Have you overcome this error? End of last season, all was well. The battery has been charged recently but the Spirit won't start. It lights up the display briefly then shows just E21. The manual blames "Motor Communication" Fault and suggests "Turn off the motor and reconnect the battery cable. If this issue cannot be solved please contact your dealer".

I tried the first several times. Is there anything else I might try before contacting the dealer?

I see that occasionally. I turn it off then on which has always cleared it for me.
 
Yes if you're not doing it already the best "preventative maintenance" you can do on any of the electric outboards that have cable connector(s) - ePropulsion Spirit family, Torqeedo 603/903/1103 etc - is spray both sides with WD40 every couple of months. Better still contact spray, but most people have WD40 in their tool box, and that's fine. I think this is in the manuals now, but it wasn't a few years ago.

And while you're in maintenance mode for your electric outboard a little grease on the screw clamps would not go amiss. You could wash off the worst of the encrusted salt with some warm slightly soapy water, if you were feeling very affectionate.

Now somebody will say "but electric outboards are sold as not requiring any maintenance" in which case I think I will call using a spray can and a smidge of grease "very basic DIY care".

I will go further and state. Of the few problems we see with electric outboards 90% would be solved (or never occur) if the connectors were sprayed with WD40 or similar, every couple of months. If you're having connector problems spraying both sides with WD40, then connecting and disconnecting a few times (to dislodge the problematic bit of dirt or corrosion) will usually fix it.

We also get phone calls at this time of year (always happy to talk!) from people who've forgotten their (ePropulsion) battery will have gone into hibernation over the Winter (attach it to mains or 12V charger for a few seconds to wake up), and/or that all varieties of electric outboard only work if they have their magnetic kill cord in place :)

At least if you have an electric outboard you're not trying to wake up your petrol one, which will have gummed up its carb over the Winter months if you didn't run it dry (especially if it's an environmentally-tuned small 4-stroke - tiny jets - and you were using E10)...
