Just replacing slats in my cockpit. Last time I did it I used epoxy but thinking sikaflex will probably be just as good and somewhat easier. Any opinions out there.

I did up an old dinghy over ten years ago with teak and iroko all screwed and glued with a polyurethane adhesive from a builders merchants. I think it was made by Sika - I imagine they're all much the same. I avoided epoxy because I wanted it to flex when I bounce of the pontoon. And epoxy is expensive.

I brought the dinghy home this year and it's in remarkably good condition. There were a few areas where it needed gluing and extra screws.

The thing is it's hard to see how timber that is regularly saturated can ever be glued. The water must eventually reach the timber glue boundary. You might get epoxy to soak into teak a bit but then it will be rigid and the wood is bound to expand.

Can you use plugged screws in the edge?
