Can someone tell me in simple terms a bit about epoxy finish. Am I right in thinking that it just like a thick gluey rock hard varnishey thing? Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

Errr, sort of Epoxy is a resin as in Araldite which can be used either as a glue or with a filler powder as a filler. Can also be used with glassfibre tape either as reinforcement (seams in ply boats) or as a materila like super GRP. The cloth could also be state of the art stuff like Kevlar or Carbon fibre. Funnily enough if you use it on say a wooden boat you have to paint or varnish over as it's not UV proof.

Depends on its aplication . Its not a lot of good as a varnish its too thick and not U.V. stable . As an adhesive with or with out micro fibres its excellent . It gives an excellent tough surface when "painted on " or used with a woven matting . I'v used it in conventional and unconventional application with excellent results . Post If you want advice/ information on specific applications .

There is a lot more to it than that - and it does need a surface finish on top or it deteriorates in Sunlight (even in UK !)However - the finish you put on will last for ever ? if you use polyurethane.
Suggest you get the WEST book.
