I'm currently revarnishing the tiller and have cleaned-up/polished the heel bracket which bolts to the rudder post. Last time I did this it re-corroded in about two weeks, so I'm pondering painting a coat of clear resin over it; the plan being that whilst it might lose some of the 'shine' it'll at least stay bronze coloured rather than green.
Anybody tried this before? Did it work? Can anyone see any pitfalls? As it'd be a beggar to get off if it didn't work.

Epoxy resin will fall to bits with UV degredation. I have used Owatrol with good results on porthole finishing rings. Clear lacquer from Halfords works on brass quite well. Both have the advantage over resin of coming off easily.

I polished up a cast off propeller to sit on a shelf for decoration. Not wishing to have to polish it endlessly, and having an old can of spray on car lacquer laying about (after sorting out a wee dent on the car) I sprayed the prop with it. Worked a treat, still shiny years later. Just a thought as it was easy to get hold of (Halfords), easy to apply and should be UV proof as it is the finish coat on a car.

You know - I should read the other post more carefully before posting /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
