Hi

This is a dumb question but as I'm about the epoxy the hull I'd rather look dumb for asking than suffer the consequences I fear.

Epoxy is pretty sticky stuff - near on the stickiest known to man they say.

So if I use masking tape create the top edge of my epoxy coatings...will I be able to remove it again? Or will it be epoxied to the boat?

Just take off the tape before it sets, but if you're completely unfamiliar with the stuff you should really do a trial run on a little bit of scrap.

Do it tonight if nec. The last thing you want to do is fish up the whole bottom!

G'day Bob28,

Most epoxy resins have a pot of 45 minutes to two hrs, and longer if it's cold.

If you are not comfortable dressed in just a 'T' shirt and pants, then it's probably too cold to standard epoxy resins and hardeners.

Masking tape will be ok, just remove it soon after coating or as you go if worried, but it can be left for half an hour with safety.

If this is your first go at epoxy resin coating, I hope you have done your research, remember it hates the cold and any moisture, humidity should be below 74% and the list goes on.

I'm just a little bit too far away to give you any direct help, but I may be able to point you in the right direction if need help finding advice on methods, types, techniques etc. Not that I'm an expert, but I have been working the stuff for many years in marine applications. No doubt other readers will also offer some very good advice.

PS dumb question? No such thing. Only dumb people who don't bother to ask.
