EPIRB in the Solent

Or anyone who primarily boats inshore who carries EPIRB is cheapening an excellent resource* and goes to sea expecting someone else to get them out of hock.

Epirbs should only be carried when going offshore.

*The situation with so many false DSC/Mayday/I've broken down please send big shiny lifeboat to tow me home boaters in the Solent means as EPIRBS become more affordable, all boats will be carrying the kit. Knowing some of the boaters they will be carrying 3 or 4 units. It will not be long before EPIRBS around the British Isles will be ignored as another false alarm. Oooh, I best run the self checks again, they must be done everyday, ooops, wrong one.

Though I am sure aircraft flying into Southampton airport could use the 121 beacons from the Needles to the Hamble.

Can't imagine why you would want an epirb in the Solent
If your boat sunk underyou,or you fell overboard clutching
your precious epirb , the biggest danger you would face
would be from being run down by loonies doing 85 knots
in ribs, possibly 2,000 White Fly Bridge Men cruising at
65 knots, Yotties running over you at 12 knots
Ellen Mcarthur bearing down on you at 30 knots
Uttering various cries and vile expletives like get out of
my way you ghastly little peasant, #koff why cant you
swim somewhere else, Gangway for a naval officer,
Don'tcha know we haVE RIGHT OF WAY!!, and if that
lot don't get you then along comes the Royal Navy and
the Red Duster mob, and just to finish your day along
comes an RAF Shackleton and drops a dinghy on your
noggin!!, Oh thats not the end of it! 'cos now here comes
the RNLI in response to your Bloody Epirb, you first get
run down by the Atlantic rib, not too bad that one, but
then heres the TAMAR!!( saw it at Libs), now that one will
do you a serious mischief. Then as a finale along comes
a pod of Whales (BIG), object to you polluting their water
with your vile body, and give you a serious seeing to
EPIRB in the Solent i don't think so
