Or anyone who primarily boats inshore who carries EPIRB is cheapening an excellent resource* and goes to sea expecting someone else to get them out of hock.
Epirbs should only be carried when going offshore.
*The situation with so many false DSC/Mayday/I've broken down please send big shiny lifeboat to tow me home boaters in the Solent means as EPIRBS become more affordable, all boats will be carrying the kit. Knowing some of the boaters they will be carrying 3 or 4 units. It will not be long before EPIRBS around the British Isles will be ignored as another false alarm. Oooh, I best run the self checks again, they must be done everyday, ooops, wrong one.
Though I am sure aircraft flying into Southampton airport could use the 121 beacons from the Needles to the Hamble.
