My EPIRB's battery is getting close to it's use-by-date and the agents in South Africa want to charge me close to the price of a brand new EPIRB to replace them. Can anyone point me to a UK based battery replacement outfit?

TIA

John

EDIT: Yes, I've done a Google and it comes up with hundreds of US sites.

I got my ACR battery replaced this year by the people who originally supplied it - Globaltech or something like that - based in Redhill (I think) - it cost about £140 and they returned it within a few days. Excellent service.

They advertise in the back of YM under the name Epirbs Direct or something like that. Sorry if its all a bit vague....
Let me know if the name is wrong and I will look it up when I get home tonight.

My battery has expired but the cost of a replacement is almost as much as I would have to pay for a new one today. The clincher was that when I tested it, I got a call from Falmouth MRCC asking if I was in trouble. Not a lot of point in paying that sort of dosh for a defective epirb!

I've decided not to get a new one until we go long distance again. The longest trip we'll be making in the next year or two is across to Brittany so I'll rely on VHF for now.
