Hi, hoping to sail up from Harwich in July. Was hoping to avoid too much sailing against the tide, but also would prefer to enter Southwold with plenty of water under me. It's springs when I'm coming. I was thinking that an hour before HT would be sensible, but wondering if I could enter any earlier... Or will the current be too quick? First time...
Thanks,
Crisp

There’s more water than there used to be. Last time I went it was about an hour before HW. I left an hour after LW and got back to Bradwell in one go. It’s a slow push round Orford Ness. Ring the HM and ask for his advice on the current (haha) state of things. Going in nearer LW would make the trip easier but the current is strong and turning in the river requires good judgement.

How much do you draw? The shallowest bit is inside the harbour past the excitement of the entrance against an ebb. I draw 2metres and have entered an hour before lw . I stuck in the mud quite nicely when mooring on the stagings though.
