Ensigns again and again

My ensign is 48" wide by 36" high. Does anybody object to that?

So long as it is worn on a 48 foot boat, no! Look a bit 'American' on anything smaller.

I must admit though that I think that oversize ensigns look a bit daft. The best advice I saw on this was in the West Marine catalogue. They suggest that an ensign should be 1" on the fly for every foot of boat. Is your boat 48ft long?

As you've mentioned the subject of ensigns you'll have many different views expressed!

That's good. 1" on the fly for every foot of boat. My boat is 38 ft and the fly on the ensign is 36", so if anything the ensign is a bit small.
