Hello,

Can any recommend a good gas cooker repairer based in the Solent area?

I have an Eno cooker and have problems with the gas grill, in that only half of the grill ignites / works.

I have had one gas repair man out to it and he has serviced the cooker and replaced the grill burner.
However the problem is still there and this gas service company has given up / does not know how to fix it.

There seems to be no ENO agents in the UK and their customer service from their French arm is shocking. I have emailed their support line twice and have just been ignored.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Take out the grill burner and bang it with something like a hammer! See if any rust comes out? Then with an appropriately sized drill bit, clear the line of holes which should normally light?see if that improves matters?

Unfortunately I can't find the thread that had a similar problem noted for the hob a good few years ago as I had a problem with the Eno cooker too. Basically the switch was the problem and it was sorted, I think with a bit of folded tinfoil in the knob where the spinal goes in to it.

Spmeone better at searching really old posts nah be able to find the thread.

Might be nothing to do with it, but did you try from a different email address?

It could be their spam filters are a bit overzealous - if you sent from work before, I'd try Yahoo or Gmail webmail, just to be sure.

Hi Andy,Ctva, & OPs,
Yes the ball of tinfoil in the knob trick works at the lighting sequence for some.
Also try lighting it with the control knob removed, just pushing in the spndle for 10mseconds.Did not work in my case however..
However I took the top off the cooker and straightened the thermocouple pipe.Success! But now its doing it again(not staying lit) so I will have to try changing this item (in my non grill model).
Does your grill have a thermocouple Andy?

I am amazed that a fitter could not find the problem can only be a blockage or a leak causing lack of pressure I would worry about the latter and maybe invest in a handheld gas sniffer to check all connections.

Yes you could be right there Parbuckle, some of the bends in the solid supply pipes at back of cooker are very tight looking? Maybe a bike boden cable inner wire or something like that (or compressed air) would perhaps help to clear any obstructions.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Yes I was also amazed that the fitter could not fix the fault, given that this is what he does for a living.
I asked for a refund for the repair and it was promptly given.

Don't think it a supply problem as I can have the cooker and all three burners on simultaneously without problem.
Also don't think it is a knob problem as the grill does light and stay on, but only half the grill ignites.
I questioned the fitter about pressures and also the grill burner jet and he advised that it all checked out ok.
Also dont think it a leak. I have two gas alarms on board and they have never gone off; additionally the fitter advised that the system has been pressure tested.

Anyway this morning I received a reply from the president of ENO. I found his email about a week ago and mailed him directly having had no response from their tech support line.

Eno have offered to send me a new grill from a batch with an improved design. Makes me think that they have recently had a faulty batch or the original design was bad.

Anyway will wait for the replacement grill and see what happens.

It is a long time since I looked at my grill unit, but usually they have a jet. Is it possible that the jet is partly obstructed? I have seen the jets on primus stoves, when partly blocked, shoot a jet of vapour sideways. You may be able to test this by removing the grill unit and directly lighting the jet. Another thing you could try, if you have access to compressed air, is to disconnect the cooker from the gas supply and force air into the jet with the burner turned turned on.

The Calor Gas Centre in Millbrook Southampton, has provided me with off-the-shelf Eno spares in the recent past. worth a try.
