Engines

Depends on age and condition.

One thing to consider is that people tend not to replace engines unless there's something wrong with the old one. I suspect your thinking of maybe changing the 60hp cause there's potentially a problem with it (a noise with the trim & Tilt?) somebody selling the 100hp will possibly be trying to get shot of it due to some other problem!

Try having a look on www.boatsandOutboards that should give you an idea.

If cash is tight the 'extra' £600 may be better spent on a good service of the 60hp

Having said all that I used to run a 70hp Yamaha which must have been 15-20 years old and in 6 months it never missed a beat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mike, one thing to bear in mind when you choose engines is the fuel supply, for instance life is much easier in difficult situations if both engine take the same oil mix (or neat petrol with oil injection or 4-stroke) and the same fuel connector, having the small auxiliary engine is no good if you can't feed it when you need it.

I'd also vote for Yamaha - Solitaire will testify that my old 90hp 2-stroke (vintage 1987), started and ran with no issues despite having very irregular usage.

My current rib setup is a 90hp 2-stroke oil injection and a 4hp 4-stroke, both Yamaha and both can run from either the main tank or the spare supply.

Bear in mind all trim and tilt makes some noise, just depends on what sort of noise the 60hp makes when you try it....
