Remember my slight "accident" in early August.

Engineers said, about a week, at the time. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I told them, it must be in Plymouth for Christmas.

Blah, blah, blah. It was being sea trialed and delivered to Plymouth today. Ready for our annual new years holiday.

Guess what. They got an engine in the wrong place and now gone on there holidays. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

well I remember it, was with him, Meekathara is featured on the Salcome RNLI web site as having been rescued by them.

Well, we were going along, minding our own business, when suddenly there was a BANG. Which was a bit puzzeling.

So I had a look, then sent for one of these.

That helped us back to the pontoon. Where a bigger pump was waiting.

And then two of these came along, with even bigger pumps.

The HM came to help as well and also a couple of police cars, but they were not sure what to do!!

At 1510 the Princess 35 ‘Meek Altarra’ reported hearing a loud bang and the loss of their port engine as they were departing Salcombe Harbour. It became quickly apparent that the vessel was taking water rapidly and immediate assistance was requested. The stations relief Atlantic 75 Inshore Lifeboat was launched with a pump and proceeded at full speed to the casualty. After quickly getting the pump to work combined with the vessels own pump the ingress of water was neutralised and the vessel was escorted under it’s own power to Batson where a Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service fire appliance was waiting to assist.
 
Well I guess that means the new years cruise is off then /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was looking forward to that, and so was Freddy.

My father was a engineer, (of the not-so-civil variety) and all I learnt from him about engineering was......

an engineer is someone who measures everything with a micrometer, marks it with a piece of chalk, and then cuts it with an axe.


Still, different type of engineers.....

Sorry to hear about this, having owned a Fairline 36 sedan which had a disconcerting habit of costing thousands of pounds on a regular basis, I know all about mechanically induced holiday trauma.

Maybe if your down we can use our boat with the sticks and rags instead? The weather is starting to look ok!

I am assuming it went something like this:

(Engineer)'ello, yea. This is Chargealot Marine. We need to order an engine.

(Engine Seller)'Ok, no problem, it could be there in a week but will actually be there in four'

(Engineer)'A week you say, excellent - I will tell the customer it will be here in a day'

(Engine Seller)'Where would you like it delivered?'

(Engineer)'Plymouth'

(Engine Seller)'Portsmouth? Right Oh'

Both go merrily on hols, no-one bothers to check and nowt gets done.
 
Dunno what caused it, but the prop shaft was bent like a banana, which took out the stern gland and wound a big hole in the back.

Anyway, the insurance has been excellent, no quibbles, agreed to pay, within minutes of getting surveyors report. Boats now got brand new, just about everything down below, except green things, which are ok. Washed and polished, then being veletted, when if ever it gets to Plymouth.
 
we'd had a electrical problem in that both engine's wouldn't start, so we decided to go back to Plymouth, instead of Alderney, going round the headland one engine started to over rev. hlb went downstairs and looked. Said we've a serious problem there's a lot of water coming in. Hlb then turned the boat round & started mayday calls, I got the dinghy ready to launch, & grabbed everything I could.

We think we hit somthing like a lobster pot, we did hear a loud bang. The bathing platform was 3" underwater when I got off. The RNLI were excellent they knew just what to do. Bit further out & we definately would have sunk. In fact that was considered by the RNLI but decided against for enviromental reasons. SORRY to those that have seen this posted before. Anyway no boating for us for 5 months /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
