Engineering insurance?

Hi folks,

As many of you know I have a background in aviation engineering. I am considering starting to offer my services as a marine engineer in and around our locale (part time, in addition to my normal job..)

Do any of you know what sort of insurance I should take out to undertake such an endeavour?

Public liability if you work in a marina most likely 2-3 million required which makes setting up expensive as Sinking or setting fire to boAts iis expensive.

This is why there are so many cash in hand bagmen about.

Come on what are you trying to do, an aviation engineer is to aircraft while a diver is to marines and stuff.

Thanks scottie. Yeah, I do bits and pieces for mates already but don't charge cos it really is only people I know. Seems to be a shortage of engineers currently, but this would be a bit of pin money for me, and I don't want to risk being uninsured if I'm doing paid work...

Public liability - usually quite cheap - and professional liability if you believe you could be held responsible for your actions if you make a mistake in your work that is likely to cause damage to customers' property. Speak to an insurance broker who specialises in business insurance.
