Well, the good news is that after too much frustrating boat-hunting, and two boats which failed surveys, I may have found 'the one'. Offer has been made and accepted, and a survey will follow, but I do already know that the boat needs some work. My holidays are fast approaching, and because the family have no desire to spend them watching me fixing things (that's for the winter), I would be grateful for recommendations of engineers (and boatyards) around the Reading area...

(I did search the forum but without much joy, I'm afraid. I also thought about replacing the family but that would be even more expensive than having a professional working on the boat).

A few to choose from:

Hobbs
Val Wyats
Bushnells
Thames and Kennet
Better Boating
Scours Lane

Depends what you want doing really, can't recommend any of them as I normally do it myself.

Thanks for those replies. No petrol engines involved, thank goodness. I'm really looking for personal recommendations of a company or one-man-band who know what they're doing, charge fair prices, and meet deadlines.

Any other comments on Better Boating (by PM if you prefer)?
