hello all
i have a problem with my engine and would wish to seek your opinion as to cause : engine starts ok and runs ok at tick over ( whether in gear or not ) but once i increase rev to say 1500 it dies off ( whether in gear or not ).
??
Thanks.

The basic cause sounds like fuel starvation. You get enough fuel through to run at tickover (assuming it runs forever on tickover?) but not enough to run at higher revs. The usual cause is blocked fuel lines or filters due to diesel bug.

If you haven't already, a first step would be cleaning the filters and changing the elements, then opening the tank drain and taking off fuel from the bottom of the tank. Any black deposits at these stages would tend to confirm the presence of bugs. Make sure you check all the filters.

Add some fuel biocide (you could restart an old argument on here by asking which one is best) then run. If it still doesn't work, it's something else. If it does, you'll be alright for a while but might want to consider further measures, like steam cleaning the tank, and regular use of biocide.

Yup - fuel starvation. Remove the first filter in the fuel line and you are almost bound to find it crudded up - this proves the diagnosis.

You know what to do - as advised above by me learn'd colleague.

Changing fuel filters religiously (not less than once a season) and with fervour, and making sure future fuel supplies are of the highest quality - take no chances - and you will not see this recur. Otherwise.....

If it's not the fuel supply, check your water injection exhaust elbow. If it's carboned up it will give the symptoms you describe. To inspecdt it properly you'll have to remove it and inspect on the bench -0 mine had reduced to an 8mm hole instead of 45mm!!
