We operate an elderly (early 70s) 60-ton freight barge on the White Nile in Southern Sudan delivering emergency food and medical relief supplies to the remote population centres along the expansive river network. It is powered by twin air-cooled Deutz 6cyl engines driving through large commercial stern drive legs. It is these drive legs causing us problems as we are unable to ascertain their exact origin & hence access the spare parts urgently needed for them! The closest my investigations have been able to reveal is from a corroded insignia on the bottom drive housing. It resembles the logo of the Dutch marine engine builder Stork Werkspoor in Amsterdam & Zwolle, Netherlands. We are unable to find a contact for these people or if in fact the stern drives were of their manufacture. We have all the serial nos etc taken from our drives & could thus accurately identify our units to a supplier were one to be found. Would you possibly have knowledge of such a supplier as we need to return this vessel to active service before the next wet season down here renders our road fleet of off-road trucks largely restricted in movement for the next 4-5 months! Many thanks for any assistance you may be able to give. Kind Regards - Mike Wicks/Norwegian People's Aid, Juba, South Sudan.
