Engine Swaps

I am looking to replace the engines (volvo petrols) on my "new to me" boat.
This I am doing for a number of reasons.
1. I got the boat for a song; a Daniel O'donnell number if I recall correct. Try it, people give you all kinds discounts.
2. I find it increasingly difficult to row a 32' coronet in and out of the marina using the oars from the octopus II uninflatable dinjy I had when I was a spotty, grotty and rather snotty 7 year old. Still needs must.
3. The left (sorry, still learning) port engine sounds as if the bottom end is full of lightly tossed but very used pinball machine parts. whereas the one on the other side (what ever you call it) sounds fine but looks as though it has been pushed out the arse end of C130 at altitude, with nothing to break its fall save rugged good looks of an icelandic coastline.
4. I want diesel engines so to be able to syphon off the works supply of gas oil.

Question is. Why thge hell do I have to spend thousands on replacement engines. If most marine diesels are based on road vehicles. why can I not rip out the lumps from a couple of Isuzu troopers, or Astras or some other scrappers that share the same base engine. find, or have made, suitable links to the sterndrives and engine mounts. If I decide to stick with petrol what is to stop me dropping a couple of 24v cozzy engines in. these units are fairly bombproof if serviced. they are built to take continuous high stress levels and are lightened and balanced to allow prolonged high revs giving around the 450/500hp mark (combined) for just under 6 ltrs. Add to this the fact cosworth granadas can be found with a full history for about £2500!!!!! as opposed to recon or new marine units that cost 2 or 3 times as much. Is the price difference there to cover some extra cost of any engineering work needed, or is it because you get, unlike when bying a car, a choice between blue or green hammerite finish on the block and head.

Help me OBeWHAN CANOBE you're my only hope.

The king and the porn may well indeed go back in the same box after the game, but I know which one I would rather watch on high quality, 100hz, wide screen DVD.

Well its a bluddy boat init! What do you expect? Give one of the marinizing companies a call, they do all the bits you need to convert an engine from a scrapper! Twin cosser lumps, now theres a thought, chipped I presume. How much money you got to spend on petrol then!! I had one of those and it was jucier than my range rover.

For the marinizing companies, start with lancing marine down brighton way or ASAP supplies over in east anglia.

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Re: Great tag line. NM

Why?.Well you need lots n lots of low down grunt. You do not need screaming its bits off revs. You will destroy your engine and or drive line in but a moment of time.
If it is of any interest the cams copressions and stuff are not the same at all in the road and marine versions of the V6 and V8 which Mercury base their engines on.

Just hold tight dear it will not be so rough when we get round the corner, trust me.
