Engine start battery 2001B

Hello,
I want to add a dedicated engine start battery for my boat. However the location determines that it will be a physically 'small' battery with a CCA of around 300A, and a 40aH capacity.
The starter motor is 1hp, which works out at around 66A.
My question is does anyone know what is the reccomended CCA for the 2001B (single cylinder diesel) or has experience of using a 'small' battery like this as engine start battery?
Red flash/Odyssey are nice but means I have to sell the boat to be able to afford one!

Barden do a complete range of starter batteries and if there's one small enough to fit the space you have, they will supply it. I found a small 330CCA battery to start my 1GM10 Yanmar which is a similar sort of thing to your Volvo only with cheaper spare parts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. It starts the engine very reliably.

[/ QUOTE ] Forget that calculation it does not give you the CCA (For example the W/S manual for my car which has 1.1 hp starter motor tells me that the loaded motor takes 180 to 220amps at 9 volts)

The W/S manual for the 2001 - 2003 engines merely recommends a battery with a maximum capacity of 70Ah and it does not give a CCA figure so thats not much help.

Thanks Gents. I bought a 330CCA battery today as Ken if it works on your Yanmar, it should work on my engine too. Just could not think of a strong enough argument why it won't. Guess I will find out soon enough!
