Right lads an lasses Thinking of replacing engine in my macwester wight 32ft ketch, presently powered by Perkins 4108, runs but past sell by. In view of the fact that she is overpowered at the moment. any surgustions as to the best engine for replacment and would a 25-30 hp be adequate. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I replaced my Perkins 4107 4 years ago with a Nanni. Have been very happy with it. I have 43HP nanni but you should be able to get by with a smaller model
Get in touch with Richard Hares of darglow marine Poole Dorset and give him my regards. He used to be nanni distributor in UK and will give good advice.

I and others in our club have had Betas fitted and are all pretty happy with them. That said Nannis seem to be very similar and no doubt are just as good. I think they and the new Volvos are all based on similar Japanese units. The three cylinder models are very smooth and quiet for diesels. They are not so heavily built as the older Volvo types. Whether that matters or not I guess only time will tell.

Very happy with our 3 cylinder 25hp Beta on a displacement of 4+ tonnes, now into our second season with it after the Sabb died ( and we can hear ourselves think under motor). Also fitted a larger than average alternator to keep the batteries up to snuff and HWMBO took a unilateral decision to have a calorifier fitted at the same time - one of his better ideas. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
