Any advice please mind now blank: tried starting our engine it turns ok fast so batteries ok but will not fire up.
Runs well no probs all pressures as should be just refuses to start. second time this has happened.
Engine a 4 cylinder lister petter, changed fuel filter in case it was that but still no start.
Thanks guys

Air cleaner blocked maybe; perhaps water separator if fitted needs draining/new filter.
Has the engine been in commission or is the problem after a long layup? Is there plenty of compression since it spins so well on the starter?
Be aware that the raw water pump will still be operating and may cause a problem unless the seacock turned off during a long period of turning over the engine on the starter, then turned on after successful start/stop.

Sounds like fuel, especially having changed the filters. If you have a manual fuel pump, give it a few strokes and you should feel the pressure come up. If not try bleeding again.

I agree with Rafiki. It is also possible that air is being sucked into the fuel system so check all pipe connections upstream of the lift pump as one or more may have loosened.

This happened to a friends new Beta installation. The engine would fire momentarily then stop. This repeated after bleeding. The unions on the primary filter were tightened (only one half turn each), the engine burst into life on the next restart.

engine probs

Hi Guys, A big thankyou for the replies:
Now appears sorted although i not clear why it happend in the first place.
We have never had probs with the engine before. I had not touched anything prior to this not starting, i only changed the filter as a just in case after it refused to start but it was pure clean. i bled the prim filter as a just incase, checked all fittings only found the pupm to block bolts moved about 1/4 turn. all this at 5 am today then it started just intime to get out of port on the falling tide. had to motor for 5 hrs today with no probs, gona make sure it starts later as we want to be away early again, we now in Eyemouth heading south.
careful sailing guys n gals thanks again
