Engine Oil

I have always put Volvo oil in my AQAD41 engines when I service them. I know Volvo charge a premium for their oil but I don't know much about diesel engine oil. I understand it should be rated 15W/40 but anyone give me some alternative brands that they have succesfully used.

I use Vauxhall 15/40 semi synthetic (I use it because I get a bulk buy discount)
As these engines take about 2.5 gallons each (inc new filter) that workes out at quite a saving.
I do 300hrs a year and no probs.

I take a 50L can along to my local lorry servicing place (which may or may not be a volvo dealership)on our trading est.Cost around 60 quid a fill if I remember correctly.

I use castrol super inboard 15w40 . Special oil for boats.Leeches off a vapour when engine not used ie winter. been using it for a number of years. Got onto it by asking castrol what oil they use in combine harvesters,as they spend many a happy hour doing nothing,like my boat in winter!! Cost about £12 for 4 ltrs.

look on the containet for spec > CC CD CF CF4
these are all diesel oil specs.
the higher the second letter the better the spec i.e. CF4 best
