FYI,
I phoned Morris Oils Tech Dept and for my Yanmar 4JH3-TE 75HP engine - they recommended Duplex CDX 15W - 40 Mineral Oil.
Its spec is CF and the TBN number is 10. My understanding that while 10 is reasonable even lower might be better.
A few points though.
When we discuss "old" marine engines they cover a variety of types from direct raw sea water cooled (that run colder) to ones like mine that have a calorifier and hence independent thermostatically controlled fresh water cooling and a turbo charger. As such I do have difficulty understanding how it differs so much from my car engine that might run at constant revs on cruise control on a motorway. I accept though that say 3-4hrs at 2000 revs on a motorway is different from 10hrs X channel at 2000revs.
Can anyone find fault in this recommendation or recommend a more suitable oil please?
