I know that this subject will have been covered before, but would welcome advice . The engine mounts on my 2003 look worn...there seems to be a great deal of movement/vibration in them. Having read the article in the PBO this month,I feel that replacement is due soon. I have ordered the new parts (£ ouch!!!) and will fit them at the first opportunity. Have any forumites done this job and can offer advice or info.on best way to go about it. I know that I will have to re- align the engine/shaft wfterwards, but am very keen to know how to replace the mounts. Thanks in advance.Y'all Have a good weekend.

just done exactly this job. fairly messy but straightforward.

the front of the engine is supported by a cradle and the mounts are between the cradle and the engine block. I undid the nuts on the studs with a 24mm box spanner and lifted the engine with a crowbar. I packed wood under the sump and then removed the cradle together with the studs. in my case I found one stud was fractured and that needed replacement too. the whole lot needed painting. replacement was the reverse.

the rear engine mounts are a bit more difficult - I needed to buy a special offset 27mm socket to get at the nuts on the mounts. but basically I took the same approach except that in my case the boat was in the water so I needed to disconnect and secure the shaft, lift the engine with the crowbar and pack underneath, and then to disconnect the mounts at the engine bearers and at the block. the rubber inserts need removing from the mounts (allen key and spanner). re-assembly is the reverse.

alignment is easy enough and has been documented here before. all in all, it took me one full day including fitting a flexible coupling and re- aligning. the engine still vibrates but less so.

incidentally, I got two different answers from volvo about which mounts were recommended and a third one from the dealers. seems they have always had vibration probs with this engine and have therefore changed mounts several times.
