are they?

if they are - how much will they cost and where do I buy them

are they hard to fit

Hi Dylan. the usual source for MD1 Volvo parts are KEYPARTS at Hemel Hempstead,and are not cheap but cheaper than Volvo agents. They are very prompt with their deliveries and helpful with queries. There may be other sources. Keypart will usually add your name to their database and notify you of any expected shortages for your engine types ; the MD1 is about 40yrs old now, I believe there are minor differences between the MD1A and the MD1B, so would be good to find out which yours is first. If badly perished they can break the stud off inside the engine casing,which happened to me just after I'd bought my boat, and we had to lift the engine out to get it sorted . There are several different sources for engine mounts on the Web but the hardness of the rubber has to be correct to prevent a repeat, or unwanted vibration - and the MD1 has enough already as I recall!!
Replaced mine with the VP 2010 and its a brilliant job, with hardly any vibration and noise levels improved too, and twin cylinder- no flywheel, heat exchanger backing the raw water cooling, same HP as the MD1 but higher revving to 3600 max , so needed a new propeller.

aaaagh!

posted asking about engine mounts

now you got me thinking about a new engine and new propellor

actually its a £2,000 boat so the slug would get scrapped before it gets re-engined

the boat is out of the water because the cutlass gland needs replacing

but that is under way - I hope that Steve from Kiss Works in Wells is turning up a new bearing thsi week

as per usual I guess I will wait until the engine mounts actually show signs of failing before replacing them.

I don't remember what type of coupling you have between engine and prop shaft but the more the engine moves about on its mountings the greater will be the loads on your stern gland and that web that was broken.

Look as if they are doing the job to me! go to www.robush.co.uk and have a furkle there, my MD22 ones were £20 odd quid each instead of £100 ish!

I re-engined my boat with an MD2. I bough the mounts from Sillette Sonic in Morden, just down the road from me. Around £16 each.

They are Yanmar bods, always advertise in PBO etc.

Mounts were great, cant believe people pay so much for them.

be very careful as the MD mounts are soft. I re-engined once & used Yanmar mounts it was perfect ashore but in the water the engine stood still & the boat shook

Wow. I thought mine danced around a bit but yours looks ready to flee the boat! What kind of coupling have you got? If I thought I could get away with that amount of movement I would change my rubbers for softer, I get loads of vibration, so much that I avoid going above 1/3 throttle. Changing the mounts shouldn't be too hard - loosen off the coupling and remove flywheel, remove mount bolts and get a scaffolding plank or similar as a lever under the engine on a block to spread the load, lift up and chock the engine, replace mounts, job done.

Then re-align the engine to the shaft
