In order to fit the MP 210 diesel in place of the old Yanmar, I'm planning to bolt some mild steel box section rails where the old yanmar mounts were, and attach the MP mounts to the box section.

I've been thinking about how to attach the mounts, obviously I've got one set of bolts to go in the top of the box section don't into the boat, and another coming up from the box section to the engine mounts.

This is going to be awkward and probably involve welding a nut or a bolt or two in place so that I can tighten the mount bolts with the rails in place... which got me thinking... why not just weld the mounts to the box section?

Rather than metal box section, why not use hardwood, epoxied and screwed to the existing beds, then use stainless coach screws to attach the mounts. Can't see any advantage in use metal for this job.

BTW know it works because that is how I did mine!

Providing the mounts to be welded are mild steel and not cast or have rubber bits glued to them welding should be fine.

Back in the days when I was grafting Alfa 2000 DOHC engines into Angleboxes and Jag straight 6s into Transits welding the donor mounts onto the recipient chassis was the way to go.
