I wouldn't go so far as to call it snake oil but the benefits obtained are very small. Regular oil and filter changes at least once per season, carried out with a hot engine, will remove all contaminants to an acceptable level.

is it snake oil or would an engine @ 900 hrs benifit from its use
TIA

All modern high quality engine oils are detergent to some extent, and so hold dirty particles in suspension. If you get the engine to normal tempreture before draining all the suspended bits will come out with the old oil. If you have been using an old technology non detergent engine oil its a completely different ball game and flushing oil could be of benifit. The accrued knowlege on this forum is large-you will get a better answer if you can let us know what is in your donk.

It might be of benefit for the first oil change on a new secondhand boat if the oil is very mucky - if only to give you peace of mind. I've only used it when we mistakenly put a multigrade in a gearbox that then slipped. The clutch plates or cones could only work with a straight SEA30 - we motored around the mooring for half an hour and it got a lot of dirt out.
