Lifted the 30 odd year old 4108 off its mounts and up into the wheelhouse today for gearbox change, main & big end bearings, crank rear oil seal and a lick of paint.
Without the bro in-laws engine crane it would have been much more of a job - A frames and a chain block I guess. The load leveller was essential as it enabled the engine to be lifted at the necessary angles to clear the bulkhead (I did it all single handed). The front chain will now be transferred to the front rh mounting so I can hang the engine on its side to get the sump off.
The ZF10m gearbox (built 2004, full working order, no play in either shaft, 1.79 & 1.86 ratios) will be going on ebay in a couple of weeks along with four, 2 year old R&D Supermounts. (I needed to fit larger ones as the PRM 150 requires the engine to be raised by 12mm and the originals were a bit too soft especially for the heavier PRM 'box.)
I was going to re ring the pistons as well but can't find any stepped top rings. There is a slight wear ridge at the top of the bores so fitting standard rings is asking for trouble.
