Ok thanks so far I've had two replies, one says yes the other says no. A little more information: I have a Regal Valante 222 SC Sportsboat, 22 feet length, inboard Volvo Penta. The other day I noticed a fair bit of water in the engine compartment. Tasting the water, it didn't taste like sea water, so presumed it came in from heavy rain that we had in Scotland. Dried the engine compartment out thoroughly. When I inspected the compartment today, all was dry. Took boat out for a little spin and on return had a half cup of water in the compartment. Tasted like sea water. From inspection, looks like it's coming from the centre chanel?

Thanks for filling in your profile- A bit more info to work on now. A boat like yours, by the nature of it's lay out will certainly let water into the bilge mainly from the engine hatch area. These are impossible to seal completely, as the cockpit drains into the bilge anyway. My boat has self draining cockpit and water still gets in especially if the drains are overwhelmed.
Now if you had a fly bridge on shafts (engines underfloor in saloon) you probably would have dry bilges.

Providing bilge pump works, don't worry about an inch or so of water.

It's good policy to dry bilge before extended storage as it will reduce condensation and therefore rust.

have had this very problem for months, First thing I did was check all connections to fresh water tank, no joy, sometimes fresh sometimes salt, I put food colouring in the heads, fresh water tank etc making sure I noted down which colour was in what. no joy. I went around every stanchion , cleat , every fixy thing on the upper deck and stern , bathing platform the lot ,used a creeping sealing fluid.Brilliant sorted. took time etc but worth it. any water in my engine bay gives me starter problems.
