Yes it's dead boring, but you'll get the sound-proofing you pay for. I think you'll find you need a good thick foam with a layer of lead unless things have changed in the last few years.

Hi
Kermudjon has got it right. Try ringing a lead bell. It stops sound waves just as well as nasty radiation. You can buy this sort of sound proofing from RadioSpares. It is not cheap but it really works.

Halyard Marine...

The Halyard website has a lot of information on soundproofing. Their materials are very good. although rather costly (but, as has been pointed out, you get what you pay for in this world). The secret to good soundproofing is scrupulous attention to detail and very careful fitting. It's not good enough just to whack a bit on the sides of the engine bay - you need to consider foam seals on all the access doors/hatches, as well as baffling ventilation sources.

ASAP Supplies can supply Quietlife sound-proofing sheets. This is slightly lower cost than some other makes but I found it very good. The sound deadening is provided by a very heavy polymer layer in the sheet (does the job that lead does). Plenty of info available on the web to compare different makes.

Big improvement in sound levels in my Sadler 26. I made cardboard templates for my engine space and then cut sheets to fit. I did the job with the engine in situ. It was a fiddly job but possible.

also used ASAP and quietlife. Very effective and reflective coating on the inside too. Quite often they run special deals on this stuff too. Easily cut with a stanley knife etc. Use spray on adhesive and then the screw in buttons.
