Has anyone reasonably recent experience of replacing sound insulation in the engine compartment of a cruising yacht? The engine (Yanmar 3GM 30F) in our 40-year-old Contest is coming out and while it's out we'd like to replace the original (?) rather tired foam rubber currently lining the engine compartment with more up-to-date sound insulation. A quick 'Google' and reading of previous threads here suggest a number of options. Any suggestions or pointers towards contemporary materials and methods would be very welcome.

Halyard Marine or Vetus are the main suppliers. Good technical information available from either. Avoid the self adhesive type as it is difficult to get existing surfaces clean enough for it to stick properly. Pay particular attention to avoiding gaps. A product where price (relative) is a good indicator of effectiveness.

Not sure if the two replies I sent made their way through the system, so apologies for repeating thanks if they have already reached you both. Wonderfully swift responses and spot-on guidance, which I will follow up. Really appreciated.
