Which outboard would you recommend for our Bombard AX3 aerotec a Mariner 3.3 (2 stroke) or a Honda BF2 (4 stroke)?Size is crucial as it will need to fit in our motorhome and both engines are very similar in size and weight. Most of its use will be on lakes/beach locations.

and...

the mariner is also a re-badged tohatsu (was that what you intended to type charles?)

you'll get a lot more power to weight from the 2 stroke (nearly twice as much in this case). the honda 2 is an egg whisk, the mariner 3.3 makes my 2.4m dinghy plane!

Both are..

I used to buy the Merc.

It has one advantage over the Tohatsu, a ss shear pin instead onf the brass one in the Tohatsu.

I discovered that the reason for the clutch on the 3.5 instead of the straight in-gear of the 2.5 was the shear-pin went if you started it in gear, in the water.

The 2.5 Tohatsu (2.2 Mercury) is exactly the same head as the 3.5 (3.3), the only changes are to the carburettor and compression ratio.
