The second weekend of the engine change didn't quite go to plan. The engine beds are cut back and the aquadrive mountings fibreglassed in. The next stage is to pack the inside edges of the engine beds to reduce the width between them and then bond on top the metal plates that will finally take the engine mounts. I also started the soundproofing.
However, whilst fibreglassing I noticed a seepage coming through the bulkead between the engine bay and the cockpit locker. This seepage was the slow weeping of raw sewage from the holding tank. The holding tank is in the very bowels of the cockpit locker under numerous other items such as the hot water tank. Taking it out is a job in itself. Finally after removing everything and angle grinding off the fibreglass where the holding tank was bonded in I was able to haul it out using the boom as a crane. In the space under the holding tank were several gallons of raw sewage.
The holding tank had a small hole in one corner that I’m sure must have been a defect from manufacture. The space under the tank had no drain hole for it to find it’s way into the keel and so it slowly collected. Finally before clearing up I pressure washed both the cockpit locker and the engine bay whilst liberally throwing flash everywhere!
So with the holding tank no longer serviceable has anyone any experience of Tek-Tanks? What are they like and what is their turnaround like?
Many thanks in advance.
