I need a piece of Engine box sound insulation 56cm x 56cm x 3cm.

You know the stuff - foam rubber with a coating of silver foil...

Anybody have any ideas where I could get some?

I am based in NE Hants., work in London and the boat is in Southampton.

TIA

Plastimo sell silver foil lined foam in half square meter sizes. It is reasonably effective but not as good as the heavier types.

I suggest you don't waste your time with second-quality stuff (apologies to Plastimo, theirs may be very good) I stripped all the old stuff off mine a few years ago, quite a big job, and replaced with the stuff Halyard sell. Made an enormous difference to the noise.

I used the Quietlife soundproofing from ASAP and it does make a lot of difference. There are different types depending upon your application.

Re: Halyard - 2 questions

I am thinking of doing the same but have no idea of the cost / surface area?

Which type of Halyard material did you go for?

Re: Halyard - 2 questions

It looks like the 32 mm Sealglass on http://www.halyard.eu.com/products/insulation/insulation2.html Bought at my local chandler in Holland a couple of years ago, so sorry cannot recall the cost, which is probably different from UK anyway.

The surface layer is fairly robust, plus I sealed all corners and edges with Sikaflex. Still looks quite tidy.
