Recent soundproofing of engine bay starting to look dog eared as foil adhesive tape on joins & ends starting to peel off 6 months in.
Tried covering with both silver and black fabric duct tape, but the residual oil/grease and heat seems to lead to same fate in short order. Any tape I could consider which should do the job, cope with the conditions & last?

Sound insulation people offer silver polyester joining tape, 2" wide. See here for example. (You'll need to look at the drop-down pricing menu to see the silver tape listed).

Gorilla tape

Just thought I'd add the info for anyone searching on this subject. Found this Gorilla tape in Homebase. Doesn't have the warnings about needing clean surfaces and troubles with heat/grease that Duct tape has on the lable and it does say extra strong adhesive, so I thought I'd give it a go. It is certainly harderto get off the reel than duct tape and seems to cling more readily to wiped, but still oily surface, so @ first site this looks to be a goer, but will update post idc over longer term performance.
