I have to reconnect my volvo 2002 back up to the prop tomorrow after replacing the engine mounts. How accurate must this be, considering the engine must move substantially when applying throttle, etc.

Is there any tips to get the alignment right. I'm taking feeler gauges etc.

I should be back in the water on the 18th June thank God (if all goes well).

Cheers

Dave

I assume it is a shaft?
I spent most of a day checking a Yanmar GM20 last year. Follow the instructions if you have any, if not set it up as closely as you can, with the drive disconnected and using a fairly coarse feeler in between the coupling plates. Most important to get height alignment correct. It is a frustrating job because one adjustment affects everything else!
My Yanmar man said (after I had done it) that it wasn't too critical because modern mounts are so soft that the engine "floats" at revs and tends to align itself.
Ho Hum......

having recently been shown how to align engine / propshaft i would suggest that the first and most important step is to ensure that the propshaft is exactly central within the propshaft tube. if the shaft is not central it does not matter how accurately you align the engine with the propshaft coupling, it will jump all over the place.

Best not to do it until the boat is in the water and rigged. They do bend shockingly when wet and tensioned!

Just to confirm Boatless point, when amber was ashore, the change of support etc meant getting the engine cover off was really difficult, things were approx 1/4" different in places from the afloat version....
