Enforcement at Maidenhead Riverside

And......

On my perambulations up and down the Thames this year ,the eye was drawn to the number of sunken vessels lying semi submerged on the bed of the river.
Some ,which appear to be old commercial steel vessels have been there, since my very first visit several years ago, the location escapes me but def. before you get to Hampton Court.
At the very least down here on the Mudway stuff does get shifted fairly quickly.
Can appreciate that it takes time to attempt to identify owners or to get the legal permission to recover the casualties of winter.
A winter flood or two ago one cabin cruiser was swept over the top of the weir at Allington but was secured to the lock wall on the tidal side.It was cut up and disposed off fairly quickly by Peel Ports.
One other boat made it all the way down to Cuxton before finally coming to rest on the sea wall.

Those rusting vessels you refer to are at Thames Ditton. There were three last I looked, a sunken tug and two former BW working narrowboats including the 'Pegasus' that was full of coke (burning not snorting). Some of us pumped her out over a couple of winters. I know the A.16 removal process was started but never followed through.

Re: while you are at it ....

The most senior position for a flag on a vessel is reserved for the Ensign - this is as close to the stern of the vessel as possible. The Ensign shows the country of registry of the vessel and indicates its nationality. A UK flagged vessel must wear her ensign as required by the Merchant Shipping Act, which includes when entering or leaving a foreign port and on demand. It is recommended that the ensign is worn at all times in daylight, especially when near to or in sight of land or another vessel. A UK registered vessel should wear the national maritime flag, the Red Ensign, unless entitled to wear a special Ensign. Wearing anything other than an authorised Ensign is a violation of British and International Law.

Gosh never knew all of this - Thanks:rolleyes:

What next all the anti-collision regs and flag etiquette thrown in for good measure ❓

Only if you ask nicely! Word has reached me that two of the boats on Maidenhead wall that were booked by Greysocks have bought a licence already.

Excellent. A good start. Hope his MBEship takes note and has more patrols.
There's a gaggle (or more) up at Oxenford where Steve could do with some help...

Re: while you are at it ....

Are those Oxenford boats the ones opposite Christchurch Meadow? I know there are several liveaboards there. Many boats don’t seem to have moved all year!

There are three collections of boats around Oxford -
Below Iffley lock
CC Meadow (as you say)
Above King's lock - towards the weir
There are others but they do move around a bit, so can be seen as 'cruising'
