Hi All,

I have recently finished reading Endurance by Alfred Lansing. For anyone who hasn't read it, I would highly suggest you put it on your Christmas list!

It is an epic tale that really puts any discomfort or modern day challenge into perspective. It is totally gripping and very inspiring. By far the best book I have read for a good while...

It's many years since I read it but I would also recommend it.

I also read a fascinating book about Shackleton's team which landed on the opposite side of Antarctica, tasked with laying a line of depots towards the Pole for Shackleton's party to make use of when heading north. They had a terrible time and some died but, as far as I remember, they achieved what they were tasked to do. Their heroic efforts were, of course, wasted but in those pre-wireless days they had no way of knowing that Shackleton had had to abandon his expedition.
