Just happened to be viewing the A'dam Harbour webcam when I saw this.

With the continuing urbanisation of Amsterdam Noord the Russian B-80 sub, so familiar to all NDSM Ferry users, is finally going (to the scrapyard I presume).

That's a shame.. we still have the one at Strood, floating but she had a big list when I last saw her, fingers crossed..

I must have overlooked it because I don't remember seeing it in a number of visits. Was it open to the public? Subs make popular attractions and I seem to have found myself on board several in my trips round the Baltic. There is even a British one in Sassnitz, though I haven't actually been on it.

There was a double sofa on it at one point :D . I don't think it's ever been in a state that it could be open to the public - just the odd wayward visitor who came to smoke a spliff and daub a piece of graffiti on the conning tower (I'm guessing here).

There's quite a lot of development going on behind the ferry terminal and along to Amsterdam Marina. The large car park next to the marina will be built on in the next year or so.

Here's a visualisation - some of it is already a reality. Obviously someone thought the sub was part of the scheme :) .
