Hi,

Does anyone know of any companies who will come to your boat to pump out toilet waste tank?

I was using a tanker company but they had a minimum charge out cost of £160!! When the guy came he said there was no way I needed the services of such a large tanker and I should be able to get it elsewhere cheaper.

My boat is static and there are no pump out facilities where she is moored so piping needs to run from a mobile waste vechicle to the boat, but I can't afford £160 every 6-8 weeks when she needs emptying.

Boat is in the Windsor area on the thames.

Any advice/help/pointers appreciated!

I am tempted to recommend a fellow forumite called HLB, who posts on the MoBo forum, but I see you are a new member & will not know about Haydn's famous post about his exploding holding tank.

If you cannot motor to a marina with emptying facilities, I think you should consider something like an Elsan or Porta-potty, where the holding tank can be carried (by hand, trolley or car) to a toilet, foul drain or septic tank for emptying.

Are there any campsites nearby? Do you have any friendly neighbours who would let you empty it in their sewer or toilet? You can always buy a bilge pump to transfer the waste to a foul water tank & then carry it to a disposal point.

If this is going to be a long term thing, I would go for a tank that could sit in your boot or a small trailer and a pump system so that you could dispose of the waste somewhere else at your own cost such as a nearby campsite. It would be no different from going to the bottle bank once a fortnight...

Not sure what the regulations are in the UK, but in the US pumping out is ok if beyond the 3 mile limit on the coast. In Canada (west coast) it's currently only an issue if in a harbour. Almost all boats have the ability to empty the holding tank at a shore pumpout through the deck fitting or pump out below the waterline with either manual or electric pump.

The OP is stuck with the nearest pump outs within a few miles...SO he can t take the boat to the pumpout hence needing to pump out on the moorings.

Just imagine he was at Hope then you ll see how far he has to go to get to the sea and then 3 miles beyond:D:D:D

That's great thanks so much for the info - there is loads for me to get researching on! The tanker guy suggested a portaloo company but I was having trouble finding one so thanks for the link.

emptying holding tank

Yes it is possible for portable toilet companies like ours to empty tanks. You need to consider 3 things.
1. We would need to get to within 10 metres of the boat with our truck.
2. Our suction hose has a 3" diameter end and so can't be put down a 2" aperture.
3. We can't guarantee times for arrival on site so you would have to be on site all day.

apart from that it's pretty straight forward.
