Middle of June and the only sail in the whole of the solent.
Taking a long weekend to go from the Orwell to the South Coast arrived in the Hamble in time for breakfast yesterday. Coming into the most crowded sailing area in the country there was not a soul in sight. No other passage makers, just a couple of ferries. Strange feeling. Admittedly the weather this weekend had been lying in wait for us and blew hard on the nose ( except when it went flat calm ) but on the whole trip I doubt we saw a dozen yachts out.

Hi
Despite what is said about the Solent if you are lucky enough to be able to sail thro' the week it is often almost quiet. Compared to Summer weekend mayhem that is. On most weekdays days there may be perhaps a few dozen boats. Come early evening you may feel you have the place to yourself. Considering there are about 30,000 moorings in the Solent area that is amazing and shows how little many peope use their boat. If you want to see what lots of boats looks like come next weekend to see the RIR.

I enjoy not seeing anyone else out, it means that i dont have any idiots to worry about. I recently took my Yachtmasters from the end of October to April and it was lovely.

Perhaps it was the weekend weather forecast, or the Queen's Birthday; but I took a visiting sailing friend from the USA on Plymouth Hoe on Saturday, to Mayflower Steps, etc.; and I remarked that I had seen more boats out sailing on some weekends in the winter.
Took him sailing on the Sunday and it was a different story. Perhaps everyone had decided to ignore the forecast. It was a grand sailing day.

yup - Sunday I sailed from Seaview to Cowes - at one point I counted over 100 sails around the boat - only two MOBOs /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
