Oh woe, she has decided to jump ship. Her dad has offered a job she can't refuse, so for next season i have to find some other unsuspecting mug erm capable and adventurous crewperson. But she won't be forgotten. Famous emma-isms include

tcm: where did you learn to waterski?
emma: oh, on one of the lakes on our farm at home.

tcm: really, we should have a torch on the dinghy when it's dark.
emma: Oh, don't worry, I can see fine!

emma: what are these?
tcm: they're lifejackets.

emma (to jfm): what you doing with these screens?
jfm: i'm plotting where we are going on the chartplotter
emma: Oh, does it talk to you as well, like a BMW?
jfm: erm no, fraid not...

Very sad, our best wishes to her in new job.

How will you find a new Emma, even half of Emma? Seriously forumites, how does one find a perfect yacht hostess who learns everything in 5mins flat and despite never being on a boat before 2002 on tcm's boats sails across the Atlantic in winter 2002/3 when tcm's boat is resting? That's more sailing than I have done in my entire life.

Possible tactical error though, tcm. Remeber twas actually the Danish captain Arnie who recruited Emma. He was fantastic. And what happened to Arnie? You fired him in a fit of pique, after England lost to Brazil, based on some trumped-up uncorroborated allegation that he was a slightly lazy git! Now whatya gonna do? Come back Arnie, all is forgiven. Hire as many hooverers as you like, mate. :)

Re: A nation mourns

This is what happens when super-efficient, gorgeous employees are fouly treated by Dickensian employers. Knew it would happen, tried to warn you etc etc.

Emma now esconced in saloon of Bav40 trying in vain to find ice making equipment to provide us with a 10am snorter, having been headhunted and promoted to another dimension altogether.

Much missed. I suspect though, next time I'm walking tthrough the Midlands, our paths will meet - she with a shortgun saying "getorfmoyland"

Matt I am so sorry but after JFMs comments the only thought that popped into my head was of that kid off the Simpsons who when anything bad has happened pops up and just says HA HA!

I know a few people that would love that job but probably couldnt survive on what you pay!

Best of luck finding a replacement. Dont forget about the skipper/engineer and his girlfreind who are looking for work in the Med next year I told you about. If you have forgotten PM me and I will remind you.
