Hi everyone,

Does anyone know or have a description (or picture!) of how the inner forestay was usually attached to the mast on an Elkins built vertue? I think a wire bridle went over or through the sockets for the spreaders but am not sure exactly how...

Hi Tim

Can't really help as mine is Cheoy Lee with ally mast.

Have you tried the VOA to ask them for details of any other Elkins members?

Good luck.

My Elkin's Carefree has the same mast as Elkin's Vertues built at the same time. All the stays fit to the mast with spliced soft eyes. I have not yet had to change any but this must be a tricky job as they must all be the correct size (getting smaller up the mast) and the rig assembled by fitting the lower ones first. I shall try and photograph this weekend; although the mast is up.

My Newmans built Vertue Eleanor of Poole has the inner forestay fitted to a wire strop above and over the cross tree. Hope this is of some help. As the mast is down I could if you wish take a photo.

I have the pictures of the lower and upper spreaders. Unfortunately I do not have the technical know how to add them to this post.

However, the forestay is the second to last soft eye (wire strop) of the bunch at the upper spreaders. a wire loop with the halyard block is on top - I would have expected it underneath but perhaps this stops the block banging against the mast.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I have taken some photos of the spreader fittings that I will post as soon as I can for guestimation purposes..
