I was sitting here thinking about elf & safety and risk assessments and I have a question.

Can anyone think of any activity that doesn't involve some risk?

The nearest I could get was sleeping ~ but then you might suffer a heart attack and because your sleeping no one would know.

Cars - forget it ~ to many crashes
Boating - forget it ~ some people die doing it.
Walking down the road - forget it ~ might trip up, bang your head ~ your dead - or get hit by a car.
Sitting in the back garden with a beer ~ definite no no ~ could choke on beer or get struck by lightening.

Peter.

A risk assessment doesn't help make things safer, it tells you who is to blame when things go wrong. They're used by managers, insurance companies and lawyers. It all stems back to the eighties when these people sacked all the workers and engineers and started running the country, although that's not a politically correct view to have on these forums.

I think the Golgafrinchams had the right idea.
