Boat has 8 Rolls 12-128AGM batteries. There are two separate starter batteries and a domestic bank of six. At the moment charging is via a Sterling 1250 CED mains charger and the engine alternator.

Now I want to get clever. I want to add an Aquair 100 (cos I've got one, and the pushpit is fitted for it) and some sort of wind generator up a pole (cos the pole's there...) and some solar cells.

What do I want to do by way of a regulator, as I am aware that AGMs take a very dim view of overcharging?

You can connect these without any regulator although you need to manually turn it off once you deem the batteries to be charged.

The other option is to use a shunt type regulator which once it senses batteries to be charged, it'll dump the excess energy by way of a heating element.

Thanks. I think I'd rather have a shunt type regulator rather than risk cooking AGMs!
