One of my clients let slip that NASA are developing a new electronic compass which should be accurate to 1 degree, have fast refresh / update times, measures about 80mm by 80mm, and should retail for about £80. (maybe plus vat) This may be useful to those who were discussing Radar, 'north up' displays, compasses, etc
It may be worth hanging on for ...?

<font color=blue>Far better done the old fashioned way like wot us old timers do.
First you catch and kill a whale. Render it and boil it down for the oil. Then fashion a pot out of clay and put the oil inside. Take some of the spare oil and trade it with a Tinker for a copper needle. Magnetise this and float it on the oil in the pot. Presto... you have a compass and you have saved £80

Ah I see the wisdom. Folly of youth. Far more reliable that way, and I can see that when struck by lightning, and the engines fail and the batteries are dead, and as I've been daft enough to drop the handheld gps overboard, I would still be able to navigate, jus like the day skipper tutor said to do. I wouldn't be able to go anywhere but I'd kno where i was. I'm all for saving the £80. Good beer vouchers should not be wasted.

As long as the new one has NMEA output, the old one didn't. I would be interested if it does.

Magnetic copper-Now there\'s a thought!

If you were able to magnetise copper, then you would be worth a lot, I mean a lot, more money than you are now.
Keep working on it.

<font color=blue>You could have met me had you bothered to attend my candlelit supper the other week, others from this forum did.
They met me and to their surprise found a charming slim but muscular young man who is obviously well hung indeed so much so it made the other men there look as if they were hung like Hamsters.

Byron's parties are a must for any forumite with taste. His house, gardens, food, hospitality, and charming wife have to be seen to be appreciated.

Especially impressive though is his antique collection of fairground distorting mirrors. He delights in showing these to his guests, and his reflected profile in one of these does indeed show a young well hung Adonis.

Other members of the party also insisted in having their photos taken in front of this particular mirror for it's 'fountain of youth' effect

I have to say that Aztec was very brave in having his particular photo taken in front of a mirror which caused some most bizarre effects. I could barely recognise the photo until someone pointed out it was in fact Aztec in front of the strange mirror.
