I want to download the Navionics chart of the Med for my tablet. I am on a prepaid internet connection. I have already asked Navionics how big the file is but I don’t get a useful answer. Anybody knows the volume of the file and maybe has advise how (Café, restaurant) to download the chart without burning my prepaid remaining balance?

Turn off Cellular Data on your tablet.
Go to a location with free wi-fi
log on
Check speed of connection with OOKLA speedtest
If you get a decent download speed, should not take too many coffees!(beers?)

I dont have a tablet so cant answer specifically. As a guide though the Navionic chart files for the Med, 43XG package, are in the region of 500-600MB when I refresh the files for my plotter. The Navionics web service can be slow and has no recovery, so if it fails its a start again situation, so you need to be able to just sit and wait wherever you choose to do it. Try to find a WiFi service which will give you a connection at 100Kbs plus over a sustained period, perhaps somewhere that will support sustained streaming video.
