I`m new to e books and expect to make the odd cock up whilst getting used to it but I did not think I would get ripped this early.
Sampled a bit of a Chris Ryan book recently and then downloaded it. Got well into the book when all of a sudden it ENDED.
It appears that I only bought a portion of it and have to go on buying portions until I`ve finished the book. This is not made obvious when you buy.
What a rip off or what. Beware.

Can I ask you to share the vendor with us?

I am hooked on eBooks and have even put all my instruction books on my Kindle.

Tony.

Assuming that you are using a Kindle, do you realise that the sample you download free and the book that you pay for are two, separate documents?

It sounds as if you have just reached the end of the free sample. You need to go back to the home page and find the one you paid for. Both will have the same title but one will be marked "sample" and the other will be marked "new" until to open it.

Yes I did recognize that they were 2 separate docs.BUT the point I was making was that on ordering the "book" after reading the free sample I did not realise that in fact this was only a PART of the book and that you had to pay more for each on going section.
This was certainly not made obvious at the time of ordering.
I have found out since that apparently this may the case with many ( but not all) of the books on offer , which if true I consider to be a blatant con.
Thanks for your input.

We use Kindle books a lot at home and work and have never had to buy the book in installments. Are you sure it wasn't just the free sample that ended early? The full purchased book may be in your archived items.

I've never come across it either, and I've been using a Kindle for ages. Not to say that one individual author / publisher might not have decided to do it that way; if they don't publicise the arrangement, so that you think the price for the first section is for the whole book, then I agree that's a bit of a con. You may find that Amazon will refund you if the situation is as you describe and you report it to them. They have an interest in people liking their Kindle environment and I've found them very willing to help in the past.

One of the good things about the kindle format is that once bought on one platform they become available on any other platform that supports kindle. Mrs maxi had kidle and audible books and when she logged her new kindle in both the kindle books and audible books she had already bought became available on the kindle

Just had another look on the site and it appears that this " book" was actually four different stories ( 4 Chris Ryan "Missions").The one I bought was actually a reasonable read when it suddenly ended!
Very disappointing and I do think that more information should be given at the point of order. maybe the number of pages would be a great help but maybe this cannot be done with e books.

If you bought it from Amazon and don't want it, they will give you a full refund, no questions asked. I did it once with a book which I felt was not at all as described. The refund was instant, even though I had had the book for a few days and read a substantial part of it.

I have put a lot of instruction books on the Kindle too. Also insurance policies with all the small print etc. Just email the pdf to your free kindle address and next time you are on Wifi/3G they will appear.

In a lot of cases the Ebook is too big to load up and has to be put up in chapters/parts, I'm afraid its down to Kindle and alike.

That seems unlikely, I have over 1,000 books on my kindle.

(And I have never encountered a book that I had to pay for in installments )

Does that mean that I could scan my boat docs in to the computer and then convert to a source that Kindle could recognise?

No need to scan. Just find a PDF copy of the manual on the web and email it to your Kindle!

For example, Raymarine have them all available as do Icom, Echomax, etc.

Tony.

What a good idea! Would be nice if reeds did a version too, they have started doing an online version included with your paper one.

Careful if you do. Even if you scan to PDF it will still be an image and probably will look terrible on the device as well as being huge. If you OCR the image you can then make your own ebook using something like Sigil and upload it with Calibre
