Electro eliminator- any views?

Hi I have fitted an electro eliminator to save lifting out to fit new prop anode, but wondered if there were any views from forumites on their effectiveness, would also be interested to hear if anybody has witnessed any noise from them as the prop turns within the brushes.

Probably more reliable/effective than bonding a hull anode to the gear box and relying on a good connection through the gearbox bearings onto the shaft.

I take it you already had a suitably placed hull anode, ie near the prop, to connect your electro eliminator too.

Standard kit on Princess and Fairline boats,you can sometimes hear them squeak at idle rpm or when coasting and the prop is freewheeling but you can't hear that when under way as the engines drown out any noise.

They work well as long as they are regularly checked and the contacts kept clean.

Which set/kit have you fitted? I have considered doing this to stop using the two huge shaft anodes on each of the shafts, but the consensus on here was whilst they work, still safer to fit the a shaft anode too.

if i remember correctly it came from Mcduff and was fitted easily - i have a stern anode fitted on the transom which I wired it into.So all seems well but was wondering how people felt about them longer term and whether they caused a noise problem.

No noise at all, the squeak mentioned above is from the cutless bearings.

You sometimes get a slight squeek from the brushes as the shaft slowes down, this can usually be fixed by cleaning the brushes with sometime sand paper. Dont use any kind of oil as it can insulate the brushes from the shaft.

You shouldn't get any squeek from a cutlass bearing whilst the boat is in the water.

Cutless bearings commonly squeak at tick-over due to reduced water flow. Never heard any noise from Electro.

My port one squeaks bu the starboard does not. I will try the trick to clean with emery though

I fitted them due to exessive shaft anode wear and some pitting on the props and they certainly helped the earth bonding. I will be interested to see how the anodes have faired when the boat comes out of the water in November.
