Electrical question

*should* be fine as long as it is 5v it's supplying.
I got a couple of these to see what what goes on..

Phones or a tablet don't actually seem to pull anywhere near what they say, Not recommended but I've shortened the charging time of an xperia tablet by pushing the voltage up a little into the pogo pin inputs, but at 5v it's rare to pull more than 1A

They take what they want, not what is available.

edit.
PVB's item might be better for an ipad, they expect to see a voltage across the other 2 pins as well before they pull the full current.

Thanks all. I have adaptors but they just add to the clutter and none that I can find deliver 2 x 2.1a to two Apple devices.

You'd need two.

I fitted one of these and it has worked well.

Unfortunately I fitted it at the chart table, which means it ends up being cluttered up with the crew's smart phones. I've bought another to fit in one of the cabins and I will fit out the others in due course.

I've got one of these: http://amzn.to/LGO4zQ

It charges TWO full current iDevices, or any combination of other USB devices. Others have reported back how good it is.

+1 we've got two of these. They do what they say on the tin, charging Apple kit via the Apple socket, other kit via the non Apple socket. I had thought of fitting something like the OP had identified but that limited where we could charge things, hence the adapters.
