I've just bought a watermaker which has an engine driven pump with an electro magnetic clutch whose electrical return is through the body of the pump. Have just realised that my boat engine (Perkins 4.236M) has an isolated return and in order to prevent possible corrosion problems, I need to electrically isolate the new pump. Has anyone tackled this kind of problem before and know of sources of suitable insulating materials and spacers? Thanks

You could get some odd effects due to the fan belt being a bit conductive or acting as a van de Graaf generator!
How much current does the clutch draw?
How about an isolated DC-DC converter?
Or is it possible to get the pump modified, I would ask the manufacturer.

you could use tufnol (tuphnol?) or Delrin materials. You'd need to create a system of spacers and isolators as required. Best of luck

Thanks to all who replied...will look for spacers..and if I draw a blank may well take up your machining offer. Cheers
